Dearest
Friends and Family,
Thanks
to you and your support, nearly three years ago my time in Swaziland changed my
life and the lives of many in the tiny village of Bulembu.
However,
today my heart still aches for the children I met in that time whose daily
lives consist of hunger, abandonment, disease, and abuse. Stories that are so
desperate it has caused me to wonder at times “can things truly change?” However,
there is an unwavering conviction in my heart that things can change. Jesus
accomplishes change through His followers. The world needs change makers, and I
want to be such a person.
Over the last year I have worked at Mercy Ministries
helping young women find hope in the midst of their life controlling issues and
as a Youth Pastor. In that time I have also realized that God has given me a
real passion for mentoring, developing, and equipping young people here in
Canada. I want to pass on to them my
burning heart to fight injustice both local and globally while making the
gospel of Jesus known and bringing hope.
Recently
as many of you know I was offered the opportunity to accomplish this as the Director of Strategic Development
and Public Engagement for an incredible organization
called Loveworks. (www.ourloveworks.com) At Loveworks I help young people use their God given
passions, gifts, and abilities in their own communities to make a global
difference and bring hope to their sisters and brothers around the world.
I get to help young leaders like Rachel. As a fourteen
year old, she put her gifts to work in a creative way that raised over $37,000
for Loveworks to help free young girls from sexual violence in Bolivia. By
helping Rachel to help the poor we are impacting the lives of both rich and
poor.
Loveworks is helping to raise up a generation of
Canadian youth to bring justice to the least of these (Matthew 25:40) who
suffer from AIDS, neglect, poverty, slavery and violence around the globe.
Another part of my job is I get to take young people
to developing countries to connect with their brothers and sisters living in
extreme poverty around the globe. This summer I took twenty young people from
Canada to Busiga, a village in Burundi, Africa. Burundi is the poorest country
in the world, and our team went to connect with some of the most neglected
people on the face of our planet, the Batwa people. During the course of the trip
the twenty young people had their eyes opened to the injustices of the world
and their hearts were changed. At the same time through our trip Christians
from the tribes that had been oppressing the Batwa became aware that God was
calling them to be part of restoring this tribe and loving them. It was a powerful trip where God worked in
incredible ways both in the lives of those on our team and the lives of the
Burundians.
There is no
doubt that Loveworks has the ability to lead thousands of young Canadians to
help the poor in Jesus’ name and affect the lives of thousands of people
trapped in global injustice and poverty around the globe!
However, in order to do this I need Help
too! I need YOUR support. Each staff member at Loveworks must raise their full
salary as we give 100% of the money raised by young people to our partners in
the field for the cause of their choice. I already have $300 per month pledged.
However this is not a living wage in Canada!
I need multiple prayer partners, and
multiple financial partners. If you count me a worthy partner I will serve as
an extension of your hands with all my heart. It is not just about money! Each donation
you make is an investment of your life
in mine, and in the lives of Canadian youth and the lives of the poor. That
is like shooting one arrow and hitting three targets! Whether your donation
is big or small you too will be participating in this incredible act of love.
I’m so grateful for you in my life as I truly would not
be where I am today without all the love, wisdom, generosity and prayer you
have poured into my life already. May God bless you and keep you in
the coming year. Thank you in advance for all your generosity and support. Your
thoughts and prayers are so appreciated!
Many Blessings and Much Gratitude!
